Today is National Computer Security Day, so what better time to talk about cloud CRM security tips? Many tips for computer security are the same for cloud CRM security, but some differ. Here are some basic tips to ensure your CRM data stays safe in the cloud.
Have strong passwords – don’t use passwords that are easy to guess, such as your pet’s name or your birthday, instead choose a password that is longer and is comprised of numbers, upper and lowercase letters, and special characters. Many platforms also use two-factor authentication to allow you to access an account, if this is available to you it is a good option to add an extra layer of security to your account.
Do not give out your passwords or data – This one is kind of self-explanatory, your passwords are your own, don’t give them out to anyone. You also should not give data to anyone you don’t know, especially information that could give away your passwords or that is confidential in your CRM.
Do not write your passwords down or put them in an easily accessible location – Having a strong password often means you can’t remember it that well, and in the age of different passwords for the dozens of accounts needed in daily life, you may be tempted to write them down on a sticky note and stick it to your computer or desk: don’t. There are secure password managers that you and your employees can use to keep your passwords secure and remembered without putting your accounts and data at risk. Make sure your employees accessing the CRM know not to share passwords or data and how to keep them safe as well for the best security.
Protect your own computer and network – Installing a trusted antivirus program and using a product like a VPN when needed can help to keep your computer safe from viruses and attacks, allowing you and your employees to browse the web more securely and keep everyone safer.
Do not log into your CRM from a public Wi-Fi network or a non-trusted network source – While you will most likely be logging into your CRM from your work internet connection, because it is in the cloud you could access it anywhere as needed. If you do need to access your CRM account when not on your work internet, make sure you are connected to a trusted and safe network to avoid any security issues.
Monitor your CRM activity regularly – A best practice for most online accounts; make sure the activity on your CRM account is coming from you or an employee that also has access. Problems can often be stopped early as long as you stay aware and vigilant of what is going on in your accounts.
Now that you know how to best keep your cloud CRM safer on the client side, you can feel more at ease and celebrate computer security day like a pro!
